Blog Journal Number 10

I really enjoyed working on Assignment 5 because I felt that it really allowed me to explore different ideas and use my own creativity. This assignment taught me skills that I've never used before.  I personally have never made a game on powerpoint, like we did for this assignment. I also have never used hyperlinking within the slides of a powerpoint before. I thought this assignment was very interesting and could be helpful for the future.

I plan to use data collection surveys as a teacher to collect data of student's thoughts and feelings. Since I plan to teach first graders, I don't think I will implement surveys as much into my class. If anything I would like to send home surveys to the student's parents to receive feedback. This could be a great way to help me grow as a teacher and learn what families like and dislike from my teaching skills. As for my students, I could introduce surveys to them by asking very basic questions.

I really enjoy reviewing my classmates' blogs because I like hearing their thoughts on the lesson and assignments that we are working on. I also like looking at some of their work like our recent website design assignment. I think sharing our ideas and thoughts on Blogger, has been a great way for all of us to connect with each other. I think it's interesting how all of us perceive the assignments and lessons differently.

I personally have not used any tech-flex or digital badges yet in this class. I think having these incentives are a great idea to keep all of us motivated. I haven't looked into many of the digital badges offered in the class. I tend to focus on our main assignments, but this is something I will definitely have to start looking into and begin working on.

A technology-related skill that I would like to learn next would be how to collect data through surveys. I know that is the next topic that we are working on as a class. This specific skill is something that I have never been taught before, which is why I'm looking forward to following classes. I think having occasional surveys throughout the school year for feedback can be very effective for teachers, which is why I would like to learn this skill. I plan to achieve this goal by attending school and following through with the lessons and assignments.

 Blog Journal Number 9

So far in EME2040, I have learned an endless amount of new tools and ideas that I hope to implement in my future. I take this class in person, and I have really enjoyed being able to get assistance or ask questions about technology face-to-face with Ms. He and my classmates. Having weekly assignments that allow you to explore your own creative mind and drilling in new tools and softwares, is what has made this class so enjoyable for me. When I am a teacher, I would like to make sure that my students have all the resources they need to succeed. I would also like my students to know that they can come to me for help at any time. I think Ms. He has done a fantastic job with providing both of those tools in our class.

Open educational resources (OER) are learning resources that are available to anyone at anytime. These resources are typically online and are "open" with intellectual property rights. This meaning that these resources grant others permission to use, edit, or remix items. Below is the blog I found that has a bunch of OER resources available. This blog is called the OER Project, there is an endless list of open educational resources posted.

As for Assignment 4: PowerPoint for Information Dissemination, I found this assignment very long and frustrating at first. I believe PowerPoint is a little outdated, so creating an assignment like this was slightly difficult to me. Although it was very long to do, I was very excited and happy with how my finished product turned out. After seeing the whole presentation come together at the end, I had a different perspective on the assignment. I felt that it really made me use my own creativity, and it highlighted some key points of what the future could look like if I ended up as a teacher. Overall, it started off as overwhelming but the final presentation turned out way better than I was expecting. I felt that I learned a lot through doing an assignment like this one.

Hi everyone! I feel that I acquired many new skills while working on the Web Design assignment. I found Weebly to be slightly outdated and difficult to use, but I was very content with how my final product ended up looking. I really liked being able to use my own creativity that I hope to use in my own my classroom one day. This put in perspective how much teachers do behind the scenes. For the future I could create my own website to use as a platform to provide resources for my students and their parents. I think this is a great way to introduce yourself and show how much you truly care for your students.

Using Diigo has been a super fun experience for me because this is a platform that I've never used prior to this class. I think Diigo is a great way to connect with others and to spread important information. I like how you are able to reply to others posts, and then break down your own posts by highlighting and adding sticky notes to the important parts of your articles posted. This could be useful in a school setting with teachers because Diigo is a great way to communicate information online. For teachers, they could post different important articles or websites related to the material being taught in class.

Technology is continuously changing and growing, so it is so important that teachers stay up to date with what is going on for their teaching material. Since it is the teacher's job to educate their students about technology, they must know the new and updated changes that have been made in society. There are many websites and platforms that have become outdated, which is why technology is continuous growing. I found this blog that is focused on 21st century educational technology. I think this is a good site to use to continue to stay informed with the new trends in educational technology.

 Blog Journal Number 7

I viewed Fairview Elementary School's website and they had a list on all of their teachers on their teacher page. After looking a few different teacher's pages, I have found that the each teacher wrote a short paragraph about their background and years of teaching. They also listed different resources related to the grades that they teach for the parents and students to look at. For example, in the picture below it shows Miss Amanda Stief's teacher page. She included a paragraph of her teaching history, contact information,  and then resources for each of the subjects she teaches with assignments and announcements.

As a teacher I plan to implement different uses of technology in my classroom to accomplish my own professional responsibilities. I plan to use sites like Canvas, Canva,  and Blogger to keep it simple to not overwhelm my young elementary school students. I think Canvas is an easy site to use to make connections with your students and to keep organized with assignments and grading. Canva is a great space for me to create newsletters and banners, and for my students to explore their own creative mind. As for Blogger, I think this site is a great space for students to share their thoughts and ideas with other classmates. I could also use blogger for typing lessons and assignments for my students as well. Overall, there are many different sites that I plan to use to help myself, but also my students.

Personally, I did not like the Wiki platform, but it still got the job done. I thought it was cool how as a group we were able to collaborate without having to be together, but I did not like how it would lock whenever someone would edit. This made it kind of difficult to get the job done on your own timing. I personally felt that the platform could use some updating, as the graphics and edits seemed outdated and the platform was very slow. Although I wasn't a big fan of the Wiki platform, I think it was a great way to complete a group project. I probably wouldn't use this platform in my own classroom, but if I were to implement it I would use it to complete group assignments as well.

Blog Journal Number 6

Hello everyone! My initial experience with Diigo was very interesting because it is a software that I've never used before. I found this software to be very cool to use, as I think it is a great way to connect and spread information with others in a group. Finding different informative websites, like we did in class, and then sharing them to our group on Diigo was a great way to quickly spread different resources to one another. I honestly don't think I've used Diigo enough to find anything that I disliked about it yet. So far I believe it is a great tool to use, especially for teachers.

As for blogging, I've really enjoyed writing down my thoughts about different learning topics each week. I also really enjoy looking at other classmates' blogs to see how they feel or what they learned each week.  I don't have any negative feelings towards blogging, I think this is also another way to make connections with others. Seeing other's thoughts towards the class material has been very interesting because everyone grasps the material differently and has different ideas. Overall, I've been enjoying blogging and seeing my classmates ideas.

A web tool 2.0 that I would like to implement in my classroom is Quizizz. Quizizz is a great tool for teachers to use to help quiz their students for practice. This software helps create interactive tools to help teachers. It allows you to make your own individual quizzes related to the material that you are teaching. Although it would require to use technology in the classroom, I think it would be a great way to get the students more involved with your class.

Hello Everyone! Prior to taking this class, I had no experience with using Twitter. Although Twitter is a common app used for people my age, it was never an app that I ever needed to use. Now that we've started using Twitter in class, I've learned that this app has many benefits to it. I've been interacting with people who are in the same class, people who attend Florida State, and people with similar interests and passions as me. This is a great way to find connections as a teacher for new tools and assistance. Being able to connect with others who have similar interests and passions, is a great way to learn new ideas from others. Twitter would be very beneficial for teachers to help get their students connect with each other, but also for the teacher to connect with other teachers. Every teacher presents new ideas on how to teach certain topics, so Twitter would be a great way to find connections.

Digital divide is the gap between people who have access to technology and those who do not. This digital divide can affect student success in schools because it creates a divide within the students. Not all students are privileged enough to have technology at home. Because every child's home life is different not everyone has access to technology or help with technology. If a child goes home from school and has access to different forms of technology, and they have parents who understand technology, then they are typically going to be more successful when it comes to using technology. If roles were reversed and the child had no access to technology and had parents who could not help, then this student would be more likely to struggle in this topic. As a teacher I would be sure to be understanding of this gap. I would not require homework that can only be done online, as not every child has access to a computer or internet. I would also like to take more time in class to teach my students as much as I can about technology to help fulfill this gap. If I can help all my students learn and understand how to use a computer, they will be more likely to succeed in this topic for the future.

Academic software is a generic phrase that refers to any type of computer software or online tools that are designed for educational purposes. There are multiple software tools that I would like to implement in my future 1st grade classroom. Some software tools that I would use would be Canva, Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, Blogger, etc. I would use Canva to create my own templates and newsletters. I would implement Microsoft Word to create my own assignments, and would also like to get my students to use this software for online work. Microsoft Excel will be used for attendance or online grading, to help stay organized. Lastly, I would also like to use Blogger within my classroom to help my students interact with each other and communicate their thoughts.

 Blog Journal Number 4

Hello everyone! Sine I plan to teach first grade, I have chosen to look into the ELA Technology Standards for grade 1. The standard that I chose is LAFS.1.RI.2.5, which is focused on knowing and using different text features to locate different key information within the text. You can do this by including headers, footers, icons, images, glossaries, table of contents, etc. I would like to implement this standard in my classroom because technology can get confusing, so learning and knowing how to locate the information can be extremely helpful. I believe I am prepared to implement this standard, as I could create different templates, websites, books, etc. to practice these skills within the classroom.  There are many online tools like Canva, to help create these templates to teach.

As a first grade teacher, there are many different subjects and topics that will be taught. After looking at the CPALMS Educator Toolkit for first grade, I found many resources available. One specific resource that I would like to implement to my classroom, would be the "Let's Talk About Money" resource under mathematics. This resource contains four different parts, but it is an interactive activity to help students understand the value of coins and dollars. This activity can be done through sorting coins, hundred charts, number lines, skip counting, etc. I found this resource interesting because it shows many different ways to teach one basic daily skill. I also liked this resource because it is very interactive, which I think would work best with teaching math to first graders.

Internet searching is something that we do in our everyday lives. Teachers specifically need to be proficient at internet searching because they need to be able to teach students how to find constructive research online, as well as find their own resources for their classroom. The internet can be very frustrating to use when the results you are hoping for do not show up, so as a teacher it is important to learn how to use different search engines, and advanced searches, etc. From this week I think learning about the CPALMS Educator Toolkit will be the most helpful to my teaching. This internet source provided a bunch of resources for a variety of subjects and grades. It also provided activities and standards to follow while teaching. This internet source and the ELA Technology Standards, were both skills that I haven't learned about until this week. It was very interesting to see how much there is to help guide teachers on their journey.

Hi everyone! Copyright and fair use are very important topics when talking about technology. Copyright is a form of protection for rights over your own property and creative work. If you are using other's creative work, you must give them the credit that they deserve by citing their sources. As a teacher, this is definitely something to watch out for, as it is very easy to plagiarize someone else's work as a student. When teaching it is important to encourage creativity, or to have a works cited page at the end to provide credit for the sources used. As for fair use, this is a set of guidelines to allow users to copy materials for nonprofit educational purposes. These guidelines must be used within reason, and depend on how much of the copyrighted work is used. As a teacher, you are able to use these copyrighted materials, but should take into consideration how much you use for your own material. Teachers should add in their in own creativity and thoughts to the material they teach, as they want their students to do the same for their work.

When using technology in a classroom, many issues could arise. Some issues being cyberbullying and decreased productivity. If it these issues were to occur in my classroom I would try my best to stop them as soon as possible. To stop cyberbullying from occurring, I would like to teach my students how to be cyber safe and discuss that bullying is completely unacceptable online and in-person. If it does occur, I would get involved, as well as get the school's staff involved as well, to get to the bottom of the issue. As for decreased productivity, I plan to limit the time my students get to use technology. I would like to teach them all about technology and allow them to use it for assignments, but once productivity becomes an issue, then technology will slowly get removed from our schedule. I feel that the best way to balance this issue would be to allow technology time, but also still make time for hands-on activities and learning time in class. This will help teach students that there must be balance between the two.

I learned many new skills working on the newsletter design assignment. I don't use Microsoft Word often, so navigating this software was slightly difficult for me at first. I learned how to create different boarder styles, how to use the the column feature, how to get a section of the page shaded, etc. while doing this assignment. After trying out all different skills on Microsoft Word for this assignment, I was very happy with how my newsletter design turned out. Some things that I think I could improve on would be the articles I chose to write about. Since my newsletter is directed towards younger children, I feel that I could make the newsletter more interesting by adding more images, instead of having so many paragraphs. Overall, I really enjoyed this assignment and feel that I learned many new skills while doing it.

 Blog Journal Number 2

Hi everyone! I have a lot of experience with Microsoft Word as a student in both grade school and at Florida State University. All throughout middle school, high school, and now college I've used Microsoft Word or Google Docs to write any type of papers. I personally use Google Docs more than I use Microsoft Word, simply because Google Docs automatically saves all of my work my Google Drive. This has been beneficial because I can keep better track of writing assignments, when having multiple papers to write for school. Although I prefer to use Google Docs, I still use Microsoft Word sometimes depending on the assignment that I am working on.

I found that the designer standard for educators to be the most meaningful. This standard focuses on using technology to create and personalize learning experiences. It accommodates to different learning styles and needs, which I find very important, as every student learns differently. The designer standard also maximizes active, deep learning, and helps create new innovative digital leaning environments for the educator and students. This specific standard for educators stuck out to me because it allows room for creative learning, but also is personalized to accommodate all students.

Digital natives are native speakers of the digital language, video games, and internet. I personally disagree with the label of "digital natives" for our youth, because finding interests and focusing on technology is a personal preference. People of all ages can spend their time with using technology, if they choose to do so. As technology continues to expand in our society, children are starting to use that and the media at a much younger age. I have experienced the differences with technology between my generation and teachers in a school setting. I have had teachers in the past who didn't know how to use certain softwares on their computer, or how to use a projector, etc. This made a slight impact on the class, as it took away time from learning when the teacher didn't know how to use the technology they were given. For the future, I hope to teach my students with a variety of resources. I don't plan to only focus around technology, but I do feel that it is an important topic to know about. I understand that not every student will be able to navigate a computer right away, but I plan to accommodate to help everyone.

Digital badges are visual representations of achievements, which I think is a great way to be rewarded for your accomplishments. I've personally only received a digital badge for accomplishing my steps in day on my Apple Watch. I've never shared these badges with other people, but it was very rewarding to receive for myself after working out or a long day. I believe digital badges are a great way to keep people motivated and focused on their individual goals.

Hi everyone, I am Jadah Carrera-Publicover! I am junior here at Florida State University. My major is Family and Child Sciences, and I have minors in Education and Psychology. I am also working towards an Interdepartmental Developmental Disabilities certification. I am from a very small town known as Spring Hill, Florida. I have two siblings, both younger than me. I also have many hobbies that include hanging out with friends, shopping, dancing, working out, and cooking/baking.

I don't have many prior experiences using technology in an educational setting besides in a few classes that I have taken like Introduction to Education and Micro Applications. While taking Intro to Education I learned how to use applications like Google Slides and Powerpoint. In Micro Applications, we focused more on using Microsoft Word, Powerpoint, and Excel. These classes provided me with a background on how to use the basics.

A personal learning network of mine is cooking, which is something I've been trying to improve. Some learning resources that I use online are Youtube, Pinterest, TikTok, and FaceTime. I use Youtube and TikTok to look up videos on different types of recipes. I use Pinterest to find new ideas of food to try and make. I use FaceTime to talk to family members for either recipes, or help while cooking. Offline learning resources that I have are family cookbooks, my friends, roommates, and family. The cookbooks provide me with new ideas, while my friends and family help me cook or test out the food I make.
